Heightened Security at Barrackpore East Secondary Following Email Threat

Overview of the Threatening Incident

On April 14, the administration of Barrackpore East Secondary School received a disturbing email, alerting them to a potential threat against students. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) was promptly informed, triggering an immediate response. This email specified a plan to shoot students as they entered the school premises on the following days, creating an urgent safety concern.

Immediate Response by Educational and Law Enforcement Authorities

Upon receiving the threat, the school’s principal contacted the Barrackpore Police Station. The situation was escalated to the TTPS’s Cybercrime Unit for a deeper investigation into the origins of the email. Concurrently, the school liaised with the MTS office, which oversees school security, resulting in enhanced security measures being implemented at the school.

Security Measures and Police Action

The TTPS, including officers from the Southern Division and the Southern Division Task Force, provided a heightened security presence at the school on the specified dates. Additional patrols were also deployed around the school vicinity to further ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff. Senior Superintendent Brian Soodeen has communicated a commitment to maintaining a safe environment, allowing school activities to continue without disruption.

The TTPS’s Cyber and Social Media Unit continues to investigate the source of the threat. Efforts are focused on identifying and apprehending the individual(s) responsible.
